You're outside your house in the backyard. The man, possibly dead, lies stretched half across your patio, half on your lawn. You see that, in the midst of his struggling and falling over, one of his shoes has come loose and been flung into a plant-pot by your feet. You pick the shoe up and look at it. It's a large DC trainer, black with yellow piping. You throw it at the gardener, it lands against his lower torso, rolls away and comes to rest a few feet away. The man has not reacted to the force of the blow. You look around the garden for other possible things to throw at the body. There is a length of decking propped up in the corner, where the brickwork meets the fence. You pick that up. It's heavy. You have to half-drag it towards the gardener and find that you aren't able to lift it high enough to drop it onto his body with a level of force you'd be satisfied with. You let it drop. Then you unhook a wooden bird-feeder from a branch and throw that down onto the gardener. The bag does not split. The peanuts do not scatter across his chest. This disappoints you. You have grown bored.
